89,husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, optometrist, and golfer, entered eternal life on Friday, July 3, 2009, at his home in the loving care of his wife and caregivers. Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, 7 p.m., St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75244. Visitation will immediately follow. Mass of Christian Burial: A celebration of Chuck’s life at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, at St. Rita Catholic Church. Burial: Following the Mass at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75234. Chuck was born to Charles and Elizabeth on March 3, 1920 in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in London, Ohio. He graduated from the Northern Illinois College of Optometry. While stationed with the Navy in Minneapolis, he met and married his wife, Lorraine. Following his World War II service as a pharmacist’s mate in the Pacific, he and Lorraine moved to Texas where he practiced as a Doctor of Optometry for 50 years in Amarillo, Houston, and Dallas. He worked for Lee Optical and then opened his own practice in north Dallas. Chuck was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church for 45 years and served as a lector and a member of the Serra Club and Knights of Columbus. His family would like to thank his caregivers, Bert and Verna, Pam with Century Hospice Care, and the St. Rita Catholic Church community who ministered to Chuck this past year. He was preceded in death by his son, David, and his granddaughter, Kate. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be given to the Katherine Elizabeth Shropshire Endowed Scholarship in the School of Nursing at University of Texas in Arlington, in care of Dean Elizabeth C.
