I was 13 yo. Charlie and I made a bet. Charlie lost the bet. He waited 2 weeks to bring my winnings to Expressway. I had plans for that $10. He finally brought it to me that Tuesday night. In a paper grocery sack filled with $10 in pennies. 😶
He began whining about turning 40. He hated it. Almost everyone he hung around with had already turned 40, so no sympathy. My💡went off. I had access to a sign where letters could be applied and it lit up and blinked. 🤔
My mother and Evelyn had been best friends since they were 8 yo and we didn't live far. We all conspired and got a key and put that sign in the front window on Estate Lane. It was lit up and blinking for a day and a half, reading, LORDY LORDY CHARLIE'S 40 before he found it. It was glorious. He never made another bet with me.
