Charles Thurmond's Obituary
Charles Edwin Thurmond “Chuck” Chuck was born on May 8, 1953 in Dallas, Texas and ended his life on January 1, 2013 in Highland Village, Texas. He attended Lakewood Elementary, JL Long Junior High, and graduated in 1971 from Woodrow Wilson High School. He became an Eagle Scout at 14. He received his undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Arlington and masters in political science from Abilene Christian University. Chuck enjoyed his career as a landman in the oil and gas industry. He made many friends from his days at Triton Energy, Devon Energy, and recently Newark Energy. In recent years, Chuck was actively involved in the Lewisville Alcoholics Anonymous Group. His family is grateful to the group for their support of him, particularly in recent months. Chuck never met a stranger; he had the gift of gab and could find something in common with anyone he met. Chuck enjoyed gardening and cooking and had quite a reputation for his desserts. He could be counted on for a joke or a laugh. His children have fond memories of camp outs, fishing trips, and summer vacations. His family and friends will miss his presence in their lives and will always treasure the memories of the loving and fun times they shared. Chuck is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary and Jack Thurmond, grandparents JA and Vera B Beall, and Madge and Moore Thurmond. Chuck is survived by son John Thurmond; daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Greg Monroe; granddaughters Genevieve (3) and Samantha (16 months); sister Patti and brother-in-law Brad Carr of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; aunt Barbara Hauptman of Georgetown, Texas; and many cousins. A memorial service for Chuck will be held on Saturday January 19th at 11 am at the Munger Place Church 5200 Bryan Street Dallas, Texas 75206. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane Dallas, Texas 75205; Denton County MHMR, PO Box 2346 Denton, Texas 76202; or For the Love of the Lake www.whiterocklake.org
