Charles Vernon White's Obituary
Charles Vernon White born July 30,1922 in Caddo Mills, TX, to James Richard White and Delpha Elizabeth White passed away February 18, 2017. After growing up on the farm Charles came to Dallas in 1939 and lived the rest of his life here except for a brief time in Oklahoma. He married the love of his life, Luise Jenkins, in 1941. In 1943 he went to work with the Griffin Grocery Company where he had a successful career. Charles opened his own food brokerage company in 1964 and worked in the food brokerage business until he retired in 1985. In 1946 Charles joined the Masonic Lodge and in 1947 he & Luise joined the Order of the Eastern Star. In 1952-53 Luise served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and Charles served as Worthy Patron. They were the youngest couple to serve in these offices in the history of the A.C. Garrett chapter. He served as Eminent Commander of A.C. Garrett Commandery in 1957-58 and was the youngest man to serve as Commander in the chapter’s history. Charles and Luise enjoyed a rich and varied life as members of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church. They danced more than 40 years with the Caprice Dance Club and in 1980 they joined the Steeple Steppers Square Dance Club. Charles served as President of both organizations and enjoyed many strong friendships through the years. He also had the opportunity to travel to 45 of the 50 States plus Canada and the British Isles. He and his bride truly lived the good life. Charles was a loving, devoted, husband, Dad, Granddad and friend. He always had a story to tell and he never missed an event for his sons and grandsons. He is much loved and will be deeply missed. Charles was preceded in death by the love of his life, Luise Jenkins White, to whom he was married for 70 years, as well as his parents and his four brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Charles and wife Charlotte, and Rick and wife Nancy. He is also survived by grandsons Jason White, Ryan White and wife Kasia, Dr. Neill White and wife Kate, Derek Daniel and wife April; and great grandsons Riley and Mason White, Nick and Ben Daniel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church.
