Charles Robert Wirth's Obituary
Charles Robert Wirth was born December 10, 1929 in Gary, Indiana to Charles Henry Wirth and Helena Genevieve Dougherty. Charles died November 21, 2014 of lung failure at Baylor Hospital, surrounded by his family. Charles served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was discharged at Fort Hood, Texas and decided to make Texas his home. In 1956, he received his BBA from the University of North Texas and began a 41 year career with State Farm Insurance. He moved to Austin in 1971 to become Divisional Manager and in 1990 he was named Governmental Affairs Director. In this role, Charles represented State Farm with the Governor and State Legislature. Charles was appointed by Governor Ann Richards (’92) and George W. Bush (’95) to the Texas Auto Theft Authority. He was Chairman of SW Insurance Information Services 1992-94 and Chairman of the Texas Auto Insurance Service Office 1992-94. Charles retired in 1997 and married his beloved wife Toni on November 8, 2000. Charles spent his remaining years in Dallas with Toni. Charles and Toni were cherished best friends and loved to travel the world, and made a lifetime of memories together. Charles also enjoyed playing golf with his lifelong State Farm friends and all sports; the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers were his passion. Charles was a Son of the American Revolution and a true patriot. Charles is survived by his wife Toni, his sister Helen (Bill) Schlueter, son Randall (Ellie) Wirth of Los Angeles, son Jeffrey (Linda) Wirth and precious granddaughter Amelia of Austin. Stepdaughters Cherry (Steve) Bernish of Dallas, Randa (Jeff) Crisler of Dallas. Visitation will be open on Sunday, November 23, 2014 starting at 2:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 24, 2014 at Restland Memorial Park with a Memorial Reception immediately following. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors, USO or the charity of your choice.
