Charles Russell Yarbrough's Obituary
Charles Russell Yarbrough was born September 19, 1922 to James and Ella Yarbrough in Springfield, MO. Charles passed away on October 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, James Robert, and an infant great grandson, James Allan, as well as his wife of over 70 years, Vivian Louise Yarbrough and his brother, Fred McDarment.Charles was survived by his three children; daughter, Debby Yarbrough and husband, Richard Kahoe; son , Charles Yarbrough II and wife, Judy; daughter, Becky Waight and husband, Ken. He was also survived by nine grandchildren, Shahana and Yusuf Ali; Jennifer Harkleroad, Elizabeth Cox, David Yarbrough and Collin Yarbrough; Allison Diaz, Andrew Waight and Christopher Waight and nine great grandchildren.Charles graduated from Oklahoma A&M University in 1948 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. His college education was interrupted by WWII during which he rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and participated in the planning of D-Day. Upon returning to school after the war, Charles met and married Louise. Following graduation, Charles joined Magnolia Petroleum in Alice, TX as a field engineer testing oil and gas wells. Charles’ career advanced through several corporate changes, ending his career 38 years later as Division Manager for natural gas in Denver, CO for Mobil Oil Corporation. As Charles and Louise moved around the United States and Canada during his career, he was involved in several significant industry developments including the start of Mobil’s Canadian natural gas business, the founding of the Canadian Gas Processing Association and the construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.Charles also served in virtually every Sunday School and Training Union position. While in Denver, Charles oversaw the construction of a new sanctuary and started a very successful food bank. When Charles moved to Dallas, he joined the Bright Fellowship class and served as a Deacon Emeritus at Wilshire Baptist Church.The family wishes to thank the Presbyterian Village North Community, the staffers of Joyce Hall, The Terrace and the Healthcare Unit as well as Faith Hospice for their loving care for Charles during the last few years.Services will be at Wilshire Baptist Church, McIver Chapel, 4316 Abrams Road, Dallas, TX 75214 on November 9th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Wingfield officiating.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pathways to Ministry Endowment at Wilshire Baptist Church.
