Charley Johnson's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Charles (Charley) Johnson, a loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather. Charley left this world on September 22, 2023, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his family, after a life well-lived. He was 84 years old.
Charley was born to Leo C. Johnson Sr. and Selma Norgren Johnson, and he grew up in Minneapolis, where he developed a strong sense of community and a passion for life. On his journey through life, Charley met and married the love of his life, Janet Chatfield Johnson, of Goodland, Kansas. Their love was a shining example of commitment and partnership, spanning many joyful years.
Charley was a dedicated father and stepfather, leaving a legacy of love and family bonds. He is survived by his children, Charles (Chuck) David Johnson and wife Jamey Johnson of Advance, North Carolina, David Stewart King and wife Jennifer King of Richardson, Texas, Michael Lowell King and wife Angela King of Lubbock, Texas, Teresa Marie Smith and husband Gary Smith of Long Lake, Minnesota, and Tammi Jo Johnson of Buffalo, Minnesota.
In addition to his children, Charley leaves behind a treasure trove of grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life: Brandon Smith, Patrick Smith, Jason and Kate Johnson, Justin Johnson, Noah Smith, Hannah King, Colin King, Carter King, and Cooper King. He was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Lennon Smith, Rowan Smith, Harlo Smith, and Bennett Johnson.
Charley was an avid outdoorsman who cherished the simple pleasures of life. He found solace and happiness in fishing and boating, and his love for travel allowed him to explore new horizons and create lasting memories. Above all, he adored spending time with his beloved grandchildren, whose laughter and love brought him immeasurable happiness.
Sadly, Charley was preceded in death by his grandson Mason Lowell King and his grandson Dustin John Smith. While they are no longer with us, their memories will forever be cherished in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity or the Network of Community Ministries, organizations that Charley held close to his heart and supported throughout his life.
Charley's warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his life's journey.
