Charlotte Marean Brewster's Obituary
Charlotte Marean Greene Brewster was born on August 29, 1944 57 to William Sr. and Marean Green in Thornton, Arkansas. From the age of three, she was raised by her uncle and aunt Howard and Sarah Ann Lee in El Dorado, Arkansas. At an early age, Charlotte joined St. Vestal AME Church in El Dorado, where she often played piano. She was very active at Washington High School, serving as a student council officer and pianist for the school chorus. She was also part of the school band, Senior Debs, and the National Honor Society. Charlotte graduated in 1962 as salutatorian of her class. She later attended AM&N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She also met and married Leroy Brewster Sr. there and to this union two children were born. After moving to Dallas in the late 1960s, Charlotte worked for Texas Instruments and later joined Burroughs Corporation (Unisys) where she worked for nearly 25 years. Beginning in 1992, she worked in the Ethnic Studies department at Southern Methodist University, and more recently assisted the Dedman Records department as well. Charlotte retired from SMU in 2012 after nearly 20 years of employment. Charlotte was a faithful member of Hamilton Park United Methodist church since 1979. She participated in the Altar & Flower Guild, Bereans Sunday School Class, Golden Bells of Joy Handbell Choir, Helping Hands Ministry, Lay Speakers Ministry, Mature Adults, Nursery Board, Prayer Ministry, Singles Ministry, Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee, and United Methodist Women. She also served as New Member Secretary for many years. Charlotte was a gifted artist, expressing her creativity through poems, plays, drawings, gift baskets, and wreaths, among other things. Known for her disarming humor, sharp intellect, extraordinary beauty, and extreme kindness, Charlotte will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Charlotte was preceded in death by: her parents, guardians, and husband Leroy, as well as brothers Donald Green, Bertran Credell Green Sr., William Green Jr., sister Elizabeth Beets, and dear friend Napoleon Jefferson. She is survived by: her son Leroy Brewster Jr., daughter Brigina Daniels (MarCarlos), sisters Margaret Houston and Carolyn Williams, brother Alex Greene (Katie), cherished friend Lorenza Watson, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2017, at Restland Abbey Chapel from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Hamilton Park UMC, located at 11881 Schroeder Rd, Dallas, Texas, 75243.
