Chay Su Dang's Obituary
Chay passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3, 2025.
Born and raised in Vietnam, Chay grew up with very little but carried a boundless determination to care for those he loved. As a young portrait photographer, he captured the lives and stories of those around him. Even in hardship, he put family first—making sure his younger sister had school supplies and giving what little he had to support his loved ones. Though many admired him in his youth, he devoted himself to family above all else.
The Vietnam War brought profound loss when the military destroyed Chay’s photographs, but it did not extinguish his spirit. Chay fled Vietnam by boat in search of a new life in America. In California, he later met the woman who would be his wife for 35 years, and together they formed a loving family with one son. Chay eventually moved to Dallas, where he worked tirelessly delivering newspapers for The Dallas Morning News, building a humble and honest life through perseverance.
As a father, Chay was firm yet devoted, offering tough love paired with unwavering presence. Some of the most cherished memories with family include watching wrestling and basketball together on the TV. Chay also kept a daily routine of driving his son to school and picking him up from football practice. Even through difficult moments, his love was steady. He possessed a spark—passionate, uncompromising, and always sure of what he wanted.
In later years, Chay found joy in gardening and studying English through writing. Though memory challenges emerged, he never lost the gift of his beautiful handwriting, where each stroke of the pen manifested into a work of art.
Chay was a great man—an admirable brother, husband, and father—and truly a best friend. Life will not be the same without him, but the memories of Chay will linger in our hearts forever.
