Cherry Lee Cox's Obituary
Cherry Lee Alexander Cox, age 90, of Dallas, passed away on June 18, 2024 in Waco, TX. Throughout her life she was known as a woman of kindness, compassion and love for her family and friends.
Cherry was born on December 30, 1933 in Tioga, TX to Raymond and Catherine (Trent) Alexander. She spent her early years living in Dallas and Sherman, where she graduated from Sherman High School in 1951. Cherry went on to attend Austin College and graduated cum laude in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Business Administration. Soon thereafter, she met her future husband, Ben Marshall Cox, at an awards banquet for their employer, Geophysical Services International (then a division of Texas Instruments). Ben and Cherry married in Sherman on June 10, 1961, and remained married for almost 60 years, until Ben’s passing in 2020.
After the birth of their son Jeff, Cherry and Ben moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. Within a few years, they moved to Denver, CO and gave birth to another son Keith, before finally settling back in Dallas, where son Brian and daughter Cathy were born. Together Ben and Cherry raised their children and worked alongside each other for over 40 years as owners of Mr. Tax of America, a bookkeeping and tax service, with multiple offices located throughout the Dallas metroplex.
Cherry’s love language was cooking, which she delighted in sharing in abundance with others at every family and church gathering. She is remembered for her famous deserts - coconut cream pie, German chocolate cake and breakfast Bundt cake – but perhaps the best treat was every Christmas enjoying her seemingly unending batches of Chex mix.
Cherry and Ben were longtime faithful members and dedicated servants of Walnut Hill Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas.
Cherry is survived by her son Jeff Cox and wife Julie, son Keith Cox and wife Kimberly, daughter in law Shelly Ward and husband Steve, daughter Cathy Cooper and husband Jon; along with grandchildren Lauren Cox and husband Kevin Nix, Michael Cox and wife Adrienne, Evan and Nolan Cox, Logan Ward and wife Sania, Miranda Koch and husband Fisher, Braeden, Landon and Camdan Cooper; and great grandchildren Dillon and Jackson Nix, Jensen and Callum Cox, Alia and Ezran Ward, and Piper Koch. She is also survived by her brother Paul Alexander and wife Patsy, sister in law Anne Alexander, brother in law John and wife Joy, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ben Cox, son Brian Cox, and brother Larry Alexander.
