Chester Wayne Ball's Obituary
Chester Wayne Ball was born in Harlingen, Texas, to R. Dale and Julia Ball. He graduated from Austin College in 1973 with a B. A. in Chemistry and Education, where he also met the love of his life, Margaret Rosalind Speer in the college symphonic band. They were married for 50 years and built a life filled with music, family, and a lifetime of service to others. Chester went on to earn his Master’s in Secondary Education from Austin College and a Master's degree in Education Administration from the University of Texas. He was a Gold member of the American Chemical Society, having been a member for over 50 years.
For more than three decades, Chester dedicated his career to serving students in Dallas ISD. He held leadership roles at Zumwalt Middle School, North Dallas High School, Boude Story Middle School, Bryan Adams High School, Edna Rowe Elementary, George B. Dealey Montessori Academy, and several other campuses. His commitment to education and his ability to connect with people left a lasting mark on countless students, families, and colleagues.
Faith was central to Chester’s life. He served as a deacon at Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church and was a long-standing member of First Presbyterian Church of Garland, where he found fellowship and lifelong friendships. He sang tenor in both church choirs.
Beyond his professional and church life, Chester was deeply committed to Scouting. As an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 744, he trekked to Philmont Scout Ranch alongside his son, Richard. One of his proudest moments came this past summer when his granddaughter completed her own Philmont trek, carrying on the family tradition.
Chester is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Rosalind Ball (née Speer); his son Richard Ball and wife Sarah; his daughter Elizabeth Amaroufi and husband John; and three cherished grandchildren: Katherine, Helen, and William Ball. He is also survived by his sister Peggy Moore (Charlie), sisters-in-law Janice Lange (Ron) and Trisha Pollard (Randy), brother-in-law Woody Speer (Marty), nine nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, Papa, uncle and friend. Chester had a quick wit, a gift for storytelling, and an uncanny knack for fixing just about anything. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the family he so dearly loved.
In lieu of flowers, Chester requested donations be made to KERA http://kera.org/chesterball or Scouting America Troop 54 https://troop54houston.squarespace.com/chester-ball-memory
He enjoyed watching the programming of KERA with his wife and children and making memories outdoors with the entire family.
