Chester Eugene Herron's Obituary
Chester Eugene Herron, aged 96, has left us to rejoin his beloved Dorothy (wife of 75 years). She left us nearly three months earlier to get eternity ready for his eventual arrival. After surviving WW2 and all of life’s hazards, Chester leaves three beautiful daughters, Barbara Stephens, Carole Lee and Linda Whitesitt and their soulmates. He leaves 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, four generations that will sorely miss his love and guidance. His numerous nieces and nephews will always remember how he counted them as his own. Born in 1920 on Herron Mountain in Oklahoma of Cherokee/Choctaw heritage and being raised through the great depression, Chester held a view of life that is largely unmatched in today’s society. He stood for honor, honesty and home. He never discarded anything he considered to be possibly valuable or useful later. His was not a “throw away” society or way of life. Chester fought for our great country in The Battle of the Bulge in WW11. He joined the Army in 1939 and served until the war was over. He then briefly joined the Army Air Corps. After leaving the service, he drove a big rig millions of miles over our nations highways and byways. He was a Mason for over 50 years, commander of a Disabled American Veterans post for 6 terms as well as a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He served disabled veterans as a service officer and veteran’s advocate for numerous years helping veterans with their disability issues. He was one of those rare men who could do whatever he set his mind to and continued to do so after his retirement, building and fashioning creative devises for the enjoyment of others. Throughout his life he met adversity and joy with the same attitude and fortitude on every front. It will take an eternity to ever quit missing him. Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 4-6 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11 AM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
