Chester Taylor's Obituary
Passed peacefully at home in his sleep on Jan 10, 2014 and is now with the Lord. Graveside visitation and services to honor Chester’s life, will be held at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas on January 17th. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm with service to immediately follow. Restland Funeral Home in Dallas assisted with the arrangements. Reverend Joseph W. Neely Reynolds of the 1st United Methodist Church of Valley Mills, Texas, will preside over the services and offer comfort, messages and prayers for family and friends. Chester was born in Dallas Texas on April 25th 1922 to Cecil and Nettie Taylor. Chester proudly served his country in the US Army Air Force in WW2 and the Korean war. He was a crew member aboard the B-17 bomber and after completing 31 combat missions with the 379th Bomb Group out of Kim Bolton England, Chester was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was the “second radio operator” and rode 31 missions as the “AERIAL Gunner” in the Ball Turret of the B-17. In Civilian life, Chester was an Equipment Specialists and supervisor in the Maintenance and Engineering department at Sears Roebuck and Company, where he retired after a lengthy and rewarding career. Chester was an avid “HAM” radio operator and was a member of several Dallas area radio clubs. His call letters were W5JWJ. He was a member of the 1st Baptist church in Mesquite. Chester was preceded in death by his beloved wife Neta and his Grandson Shane Cable. He is survived by his sons, Ron and Frank (Taylor) Cable; granddaughters, Brandi (Cable) Lainhart & Tamara Jo Cable and one grandson, Reed Cable. Chester also has two great grandchildren, Myer Lainhart and Shelby Faith (Cable) Robertson. Chester was a loving father, grandfather and husband, who always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. He loved to sing and play the piano and organ. Chester enjoyed listening to and telling a good joke or story, being funny and light hearted and making himself and others feel good. He will be missed but always remembered and loved.
