Chih-Wei Joseph Chang's Obituary
Chih-wei Joseph Chang, aged 38, of Irving TX passed away Monday, November 23, 2015. He was born in Teipai, Taiwan on February 28, 1977. Joseph graduated from CSULB with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He was one of the founders of the popular Long Beach reggae/hip hop band Chapter 11, where he was the keyboardist and songwriter. Chapter 11 would go on to achieve high popularity in Japan and topped the charts there. Although he had a bachelor’s degree in economics, he also studied art and music- the history, rules and theory. He performed and created art and music and followed only the rules that suited him. He knew the rules and he often chose to break them, and refused to be constrained by them until he had proven to himself whether or not they mattered, whether they made sense or contributed to beauty and happiness in the world, and he knew that the rules of beauty and happiness were subjective too. Whether he was breaking rules or following his interpretation of them, he caused a reaction, in all our lives and in his work. He is survived by his parents, his wife Manith, and his extended loving family. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered as someone who lived every day as though it was his last. Service will be on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home at Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
