Chris Pete Kouvelis' Obituary
KOUVELIS, CHRIS PETE 84, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on September 21, 1929 in San Angelo, Texas to Pete and Venetia Kouvelis. Chris graduated from San Angelo Central High School and attended Angelo State University before serving in the US Army. He married Georgean Becka Brunell in Dallas in November 1953 and they raised 5 children in San Angelo. Chris and his brother John were in business together for 40 years as partners of C&J Drive-In Grocery. In 1994, Chris retired and he and Becka moved to Dallas, where they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Chris is preceded in death by granddaughter, Venetia Ivy Haby. He will be remembered by his loving wife, Becka; sons, Peter Kouvelis and wife, Hilda, and Chris Kouvelis, Jr.; daughters, Kandi and husband, Hayden Haby, Jr., Melissa and husband, Paul Athens, Kimberly and husband, Edward LaScala. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Paul Athens, Jr, Hayden Griffin Haby, III and fiancee, Georgea Pappas, Amanda Kaim and husband, Gabriel, Chris Athens and wife, Brenna, Samantha Athens, Edward, Nicholas, Luke and Penelope LaScala and Chris Kouvelis, III. He is also survived by his brother, John Kouvelis and sister, Connie Zotos; sisters-in-law, Mary Vlamides and Lilly Fotopoulos, as well as many nieces and nephews. Chris was a humble and well-loved man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend whose legacy is leaving people far better for having been touched by him. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and AHEPA. He was also an avid golfer, tennis fan and poker player. There will be a Trisagion service on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 7:00 PM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas 75240. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2014, also at Holy Trinity. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. May his memory be Eternal.
