Christa Martha Austin's Obituary
Christa M. Austin, 92, of Casper, Wyoming passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Garden Square Assisted Living in Casper, Wyoming.
Christa was born on February 15, 1931 in Leipzig, Germany, to Franz and Martha Griehl.
She survived the bombing of World War II and escaped the Russian Zone as a teenager. She met her husband Jerry Austin, in Wiesbaden, Germany, who was serving as an Airman in the US Air Force. They married in 1953, and together they adopted two children, Daniel and Erin, while living in Wyoming.
The family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1967 where they were self employed until Jerry's death in 1998, whereupon she returned to Casper, Wyoming to live near Jerry's family.
Christa had an unwavering love of all animals, having adopted and raised numerous furry friends. She especially liked the name "Brownie" of which four of her dachshunds were named. Christa also created names and stories for all of the Prairie Dogs that played outside of her window at Garden Square Assisted Living.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and her sister, Ursula.
Christa is survived by her children, Daniel (Mary Jane) Austin of Springfield, Virginia and Erin Austin of Casper, Wyoming; grandchildren, Kristina (Brandon) Bishoff, Annalise (Cameron) Jensen, Laurelynn Austin, Julianne (Seth) Wegesend-Ako, Jared Austin, Aliyah Austin, and Daniel Austin; also, Jonathan (Ashley) Austin and Tommi (Jason) Greene; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
