Christopher John Pohl's Obituary
Christopher’s accomplishments are many, but above all he was a child of God and accepted Christ as his savior. His successes made him stronger and his love madehim unforgettable. He leaves behind everyone who he loved, but his impact in eachand everyone of our lives had meaning. Leave here knowing he is home. Christopher gave his all, a man of his word and a man of honor. He saw the heart of a person and beaconed the potential in everyone he knew. He is known and loved by family and dear friends from all over the world. He was a dreamer and a visionary entrepreneur. Christopher was an accomplished musician and songwriter. However, among his most cherished earthly accomplishments, he was an American Patriot and Warrior. Chris was the first born and the essence of what “big brothers” are supposed to be, always protecting his younger brothers and sisters. He was one of the few people who can say they lived and accomplished their childhood dream. At 18 years of age he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Where he had the opportunity to commit to Special Operation field and opted for TACP (Tactical Air Control Patrol). After being honorably released from the U.S. Air Force he served the Alaska Air National Guard. He coordinated search and rescue (SAR) missions. Christopher was recognized by the State of Alaska for personally saving 55+ lives and assisted in 200+ other lifesaving missions. After being honorably discharged from the Alaska Air National Guard, he enlisted in the U.S Navy to apply for SEALs training. Christopher made it to the Navy’s Basic Underwater Demolition (BUDS) and to “Hell Week”. He broke his leg (stress fracture) and was recycled for medical reasons. He made it through to “Hell Week” a second time. I remember him telling me he broke both legs (stress fractures) but then he said, “We were running in the surf and I sprained my ankle and I couldn’t put on my boot and that is how they caught me”. Christopher never did quit at anything. He was released from the SEALs and invited to return. He finished his Navy enlistment as an SP working in Italy with the Napal’s Police. He was honorably released after completing his enlistment. After spending time on active duty, Chris worked as a dispatcher with the Fort Worth Police Department. He then supported our U.S. Military as a contractor with several companies (Cochise, Parsons, DynCorp, Caci, Netorian, and others). Chris’ career defines how he felt about his country and more importantly about his Comrades-in-Arms. Ernest Hemingway once said, “know thyself” and Christopher knew exactly who he was. He served our Country, in combat, for approximately 14+ years involved in special operations missions. He was the real deal. Chris and his Comrades-in-Arms are a big part of the reason the rest of us Americans have the freedom we do. Christopher’s life demonstrated the in depth meaning of not only “honor” but “sacred honor”, the very same kind that our Founding Fathers fought for when they signed the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence. Christopher served our country both in the military and as a civilian in Italy, Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was and is a true American Hero. Be still in your grief knowing he left this world having found the love of his life and blessed to have a daughter thatwas the world to him. Please join in honoring Chris’s memory with saying farewell to an unforgettable husband, father, warrior and man. Funeral Ceremony to honor Christopher will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas.
