Dear Fred, I was unable to attend the memorial in Dalhart. I just wanted you to know that I have been thinking about you. Clara was such a wonderful, loving person. In the 8 years that I have been back in Dalhart, I have had the pleasure of spending precious moments with Clara. She always had a smile on her face and made you feel welcomed. I was so pleased when she received the "Citizen of the Year Award." She was most deserving of it. When Clara and I spoke we naturally talked about you and your family. I know that your heart is empty, but, I pray that God will give you his peace and love as Clara gave to many people. God Bless you and your family!
My Aunt Clara has been the last link, for several years, to the five "Smith Girls"; Electa b.1901, Mary Lee b.1903, Flora b.1906, Sarah b.1908, and Clara b.1912. Clara's wonderful memory of family details, and her continued mental sharpness to the last, were a treasure for those of us whose great interest in this family continues. My memories of get-togethers at Grandmother's house with all the "Girls", their husbands and children, during my life from mid-1930s until 1956 when Grandmother died and the 1509 Vincent St House in Brownwood was sold, are so great to have. Those holiday gatherings were full of laughter, pranks, secret-telling, cooking, eating, sleeping many to a bed and children in pallets on the floor. Wonderful memories of my Mother's parents and sisters. We were so fortunate to have Aunt Clara for so long, and her loss is deeply mourned by us all.
Mrs. Murphy was a grand lady in every way. I know that that her presence has made Heaven just a a little better place.
Clara was the classiest lady I've known. She had a heart bigger than the state of Texas. The world is a better place because she was here. I'm a better person for having known her.
Loved getting to see Aunt Clara at the family reunion! I was so surprised at how good she was getting around and how pretty she still was!!
Oh, you all, we just watched the lovely slideshow~~~what a legacy she has left! You are a beautiful family! Our prayers are with each of you as you go through this difficult time.
What a great time we had with Sweet Aunt Clara at the Murphy Reunion a couple of years ago. What a wonderful lady.
Our Dear Clara…I find it difficult to believe that she has moved on to heaven. We now have another angel to watch over us just as she did here on earth. What an incredible, loving, giving and caring person. I thank God that circumstances led her to spend her last couple of years here in Dallas, so that I could have the blessing of getting to know her and have her in my life. The love and inspiration she gave was truly amazing. Just being close to her made you feel special. I will always be her "Fred Charming". It was really an amazing irony to both of us that her father was Fred Harvey Smith and that I, Fred Harvey, married into her family. I pray that the Lord give her incredible accolades for all of the blessings that she spread here on earth as she was truly a gift to us that will be desperately missed. I just try to take solace from the fact that I know we now have another angel watching over us from above.
Will always remember the great day my mother and I had with Clara last year driving through our Amish community. She was a wonderful lady and so glad to have known her and spend time with her.
