Clarence "Clancy" Lee Squyres Jr.'s Obituary
Clarence Lee Squyres Jr, better known as Clancy, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, February 21, 2024, in Frisco, Texas, with his wife and sister by his side.
Left to share memories is a legion of loved ones who appreciated his wry sense of humor, an innate ability to recall minutiae from decades ago and beat anyone at Trivial Pursuit. He was a gifted raconteur who could recount stories in excruciating detail and favored the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, any little league team his sons played on, music and TV shows made prior to the 1970s, the Ministry of Silly Walks and the great outdoors.
He was born July 28, 1960, in Sinton, Texas, and later lived in Argentina, Trinidad, Singapore and England and traveled to many other parts of the globe. In 1978, he returned to the Lone Star state where he graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Clancy is survived by wife of 41 years Suzanne Squyres and sons John and Ryan; sister Kate Cornelius, her husband, Craig, and their sons, Kyle and Keith; favorite uncle and aunt Roy and Sherry Ogburn; “earth mom” Gwen Tucker; and a formidable brigade of cousins, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Janis Jean Teller; grandparents, Herman and Ada Teller; and father-in-law Ray Tucker.
At the age of 17, Clancy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. A fighter until the end, he had to deal with the cruel disease and everything that followed: kidney disease, dialysis, damage to his hands and feet and other chronic conditions. That sense of humor, however, remained untouched and we are all richer for having him in our lives.
The visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 1, at 1 pm at Restland Wildwood Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 2 pm, at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to American Diabetes Association, National Kidney Foundation, Catholic Charities or your favorite charity.
