Clarence Wilson Dagnal Jr.'s Obituary
Dagnal Jr., Clarence Wilson, 83, of Richardson, Texas passed away June 4, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born March 25, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Pauline Limerick and Clarence W. Dagnal. He was the last of five children and was forever known as “Sonny” by his four older sisters and subsequent family members. To his friends, he was C. W.” or “Dag.” He married Susie Faye West on December 30, 1949 and they shared nearly 55 years together before her death in December 2004. The last six years he has shared his life with a wonderful lady, Billie Longley. His greatest regret is leaving Billie too soon. C. W. was the founder and owner of Dallas Fire Protection along with his wife. He was a Mason and a Shriner. But skeet shooting was his passion. He was a member of the Dallas Gun Club, the Grand Prairie Gun Club, the NRA, the Texas Skeet Shooting Association and the National Skeet Shooting Association. During his nearly four decades of shooting, he earned numerous awards including All American honors several times. His skills were widely known and he was still competing, and was competitive, until six weeks before his death. His award for the 1994 Grand Prairie Gun Club Vintage Shoot Championship summarized his expertise as a marksman by saying “the winner of this award has demonstrated a true sportsman’s talent.” All in the skeet shooting community will miss his talent, humor, kindness, and friendship. His parents; his wife; and his sisters, Dorothy Hosley, Kathleen Clasby, and Lorraine Philbeck preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Norma Williams; loving companion Billie Longley; his nephew, Richard A. Hosley II and wife, Cyril; niece, Linda Gilley and husband, David; nephew Robert Hosley’s widow, Carol Hosley; niece, Patty Taylor and husband, Larry; nephew, David Feemster and wife, Linda; niece, Sandy Green and husband, Dick; nephew, James Williams; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was a kind and gentle man, a loving brother, uncle, companion and friend. We will all miss him greatly. A visitation will be held 1:30-2:30 PM Monday, June 9, at Restland Memorial Chapel with funeral services begining immediately following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in C. W.’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030; Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219; or the Wounded Warrior Project, P. 0.
