Mr. Clarence Parker's Obituary
PARKER, M.D., CLARENCE R., Clarence Reece Parker was born in Marshall, Texas, on October 7, 1924 to Charles and Christine Parker, the middle of three sons, and brought up in the traditions of the old South, After education in the public schools of Marshall, he attended a variety of colleges – The College of Marshall, The University of Texas, Sam Houston University, and Louisiana State University – before graduation from Southwestern Medical School in 1949. Thereafter, he served an internship at Shreveport Charity Hospital, a residency in Psychiatry at Temple University Medical Center in Philadelphia, and graduated from the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute in 1960. After graduation, he practiced psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Philadelphia, Austin and Dallas from 1960 to 2007. During WWII, Dr. Parker was in the Army, and during the Korean Conflict, he served with the Navy at the Key West Navy Hospital; with the Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and with the Air Force at the Langley Air Force Hospital, Virginia. He is a life member of the American Medical Association and of the American Psychoanalytic Association. Dr. Parker married Helen June Miller (1925-2000) in 1949. She, his parents, and both brothers (Bill and Jerry) have predeceased him. He is survived by his three daughters – Carrie (J.D.), Susanna (M.D.) and Jenny (M.D.). – and their respective husbands, Robert Tiemann (J.D.), James H. Merritt (M.D.) and John Mellor; and by granddaughters Laura Helen Gorthey and Helen Anne and Sara Susanna Merritt; and by step-grandsons, Seth, Matt and Luke Tiemann. Dr. Parker died August 3, 2007, certain in the knowledge that, somewhere in the beyond, he will live and love again. He will be interred with the remains of his wife at Restland Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August, 13, 2007 at 12:30 at Restland Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Day that I have loved, Day that I have loved, The night is here.
