Claude Travis Cook's Obituary
Claude Travis Cook passed away at his home in Rowlett on June 6, 2018, at the age of 85. He was born December 31, 1932, in Clarendon, Texas to Bessie E. Farmer and James O. Cook. He moved to Caddo Mills, TX, in Hunt County, as a toddler in a covered wagon. He served in the U. S. Navy in Japan, and worked at John E. Mitchell Co., before joining the Dallas Police Department in 1954. He worked almost 30 years as a Sergeant in the Traffic Division, Badge #995. On November 22, 1963, he was working traffic at Elm and Ervay when President Kennedy was shot. After retiring from the Dallas Police Dept., Claude worked security at AT&T for five years. He was a 32* degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite for over fifty years and a member of the East Dallas Lodge No. 1200. He was a true gentleman who was dearly loved, respected, and known for his honesty and fairness. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was an avid hunter, forty-two player, storyteller, and knew a joke for every occasion. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, John Cook, and Sam Cook. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, LaVerne Grimes Cook; daughter Janice Chapman (Dennis), son Gerald Cook (Beth), and son Philip Cook (Regina Cross) all of Rowlett; granddaughter Allyson Cook (Jordan Chapman) of San Mateo, CA; granddaughter Jenna Chapman of Rowlett; granddaughter Jordan Chapman of Seattle, WA; grandson John Waldron (Landrie), great-granddaughters Murphie and Lucie, of Ft. Worth; and brother James Bradford Cook (Gussie). A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018, from 6-8 pm at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, June 10th, 2:30 pm, at Restland Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Garden of Ascension. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DPD, The Assist The Officer Foundation, 1412 Griffin St. East, Dallas, TX 75215, or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all of Claude’s caregivers from Senior Helpers and Faith Presbyterian Hospice who made it possible for him to have a quality of life at home.
