Clyde Carroll Johnston Jr's Obituary
Clyde Johnston was born on January 18, 1920 in Chillicothe, Texas and passed away on January 29, 2015 in Plano, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Carroll Johnston, Sr. and mother, Nell Ogilvie Johnston. Clyde graduated Sunset High School in 1938 and attended SMU. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and was commissioned a Flight Officer in 1943. His World War II service was spent flying C-47’s in the CBI – China, Burma India Theater of Operations with “The Flying Tigers”, under the command of General Claire Chennault. Clyde received 3 Battle Stars, the Air Medal and “The Distinguished Flying Cross”. In 1952, he was recalled to active duty by the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1972 with the rank of Major and returned to Dallas, TX where he enjoyed a long career in the jewelry business as a Sales Representative for several New York manufacturers of precious gems and jewelry. He was an organizer, charter member and past president of the Southwestern 24 karat Club of Texas. He was a dedicated member of Kessler Park United Methodist Church, servicing faithfully in various capacities for 71 years. Clyde was an avid sports fan and coached youth softball at Kessler Park Methodist Church. A strong Christian man and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather he will be lovingly missed by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, June Johnston, of Dallas, TX; son, Jay Johnston and wife Jacqueline of Dallas, TX; son, Don Johnston of Austin, TX; grandsons, Jordan Johnston and wife Julie of Austin, TX, Jedd Johnston of Austin, TX and Jake Johnston of Houston, TX; two great grandchildren, Kate Pearl and William Johnston of Austin, TX. The visitation for Clyde will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Clyde will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Kessler Park United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at 2:30 PM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. A reception will take place later that same day at 5716 Covehaven Dr., Dallas, TX 75252 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for friends and family.
