CMSGT Daniel William Greene's Obituary
GREENE, CMSGT DANIEL WILLIAM Passed away on September 11, 2011 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s. He was born in Electra, TX on February 6, 1932. The following he wrote himself… I retired from the Military Service in 1972. Served nine years with the U.S. Navy (Korean War) and fourteen years with the U.S. Air Force (Viet Nam). I retired as Chief Master Sergeant. I served all over the world except in the Antarctic. My final assignment was the supervision of the flight line and all aircraft at the air Force Flight Test Center, Edward Air Force Base California. I worked on the original moon-landing camera development as well as most of the very high performance aircraft that came out of the Cold War. I retired again in 2003 from the City of Dallas, Dallas, TX. I served twenty-three years as the resident construction superintendent. I supervised the construction of all structures the city built for itself such as Libraries, Police and Fire Stations, community service buildings and anything else built for city use. I completed my education at Richland College in 1975 with a degree in construction management and technology. Charletta and I continue to take courses every semester, building our educational reserve. Great Fun! Favorite cities: Dallas, Corpus Christi and San Francisco. Favorite foreign country: United Kingdom. Favorite hobbies: travel, collecting swords and edged weapons. I have nine blue ribbons from the State Fair of Texas. Favorite spectator sport is football and the Dallas Cowboys. High: marrying Charletta in July in 1952. Low: Breaking both thighs in a sky-diving accident in 1992. Like to share: I would love to go back and do it all over again. The good Lord gave me the best parents, wife, friends and life. What more could anyone want. Dan was a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #71. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Charles Greene and Marie Virginia Palmer Greene; his sister Virgenia Lee Ware. He is survived by his wife, Charletta “Good” Greene; son, John Wayne Greene; daughter, Jennie Marie Gorman and her husband, Glenn; three grandchildren, Nathanal (Nathan), Elizabeth and Michael; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be on Saturday, September 24 at 12:30 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will follow with full military honors. Dan loved people, pets and poetry. He really liked flowers but if you wish, donations may be made to the No-Kill Animal Shelter, Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, TX.
