Cody Gene McCutchin's Obituary
Cody Gene McCutchin, age 68, passed away on Thursday, November 25th, 2021. Cody was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on October 1st, 1953, to Gene and Carol McCutchin. Shortly following Cody’s birth, the McCutchin family returned to Dallas. Cody attended Greenhill before transferring to Kemper Military School for the 9th and 10th grade. Cody then returned to Greenhill and was the first, second-generation student to graduate from Greenhill. Cody was awarded Most Valuable Football Player, All-Conference Football, All-Conference Soccer, All-Conference Track, and All-City Football. Cody and his father, Gene McCutchin, are the only father and son to have both been named Most Valuable Football Player in the history of Greenhill.
Cody’s first store in Dallas, Coyote’s Western Wear, was the epitome of all things western. He adored working with people and assisting them in choosing cowboy hats, boots, and western clothing. In the early 80’s, Cody engaged in the oil and gas business. He was successful in wildcat drilling with his cable tool rig. Cody was an exceptional steel welder and created hand-made, unique, marvelous furniture. He loved welding and designing timeless, personalized pieces for his closest friends. Cody was named Artist of the Year in Taos, New Mexico.
In the summer of 1989, Dorota Linden walked into Cody’s art gallery, Picture It, where she met the handsome green-eyed cowboy for the first time. Shortly upon meeting, Cody and Dorota became inseparable. In August of 1990, the two love birds eloped in Kauai, Hawaii, and have remained happily in love ever since. Their greatest moments together included cross-country motorcycle rides, laughing endlessly at Cody’s jokes, and spending time with their children and Australian Shepherds. You could say Dorota brought out the best in Cody, as he was named Dallas Citizen of the Year in 1992.
Although Cody had many passions, one of his greatest talents was horseback riding. He began riding horses at a young age and grew to become an incredible rider. Cody was a dedicated member of the American Quarter Horse Association and won countless awards, including World Champion Team Pinner. Cody spent the last few decades of his life working in ranching. The horses, cows, and catfish pond brought immense joy to his animal-loving heart. Cody was an exceptional skier and adored being in the mountains, especially Colorado. One of Cody’s greatest joys was spending time at his home in San Luis, Colorado, which he built by hand. Cody lived his life to the fullest and savored every precious moment.
Cody is survived by his loving wife and life partner of thirty-one years, Dorota McCutchin; sons, Alexander McCutchin and his wife Adrienne, Derek Williams, and Gene McCutchin; daughter, Savannah McCutchin; father, Gene McCutchin; sisters, Kit Meyer and her husband Rick, and Tracy McCutchin; Mother-in-law, Stella Linden; Brothers-in-Law, Robert Linden and his wife Murray, and Roman Linden; Sister-in-law, Alexandra Linden; and numerous uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and loving friends.
