Lt. Col Chester Earle South's Obituary
SOUTH, LT. COL CHESTER EARLE 88, died on September 28, 2012 in his home in Wylie, TX, surrounded by his family after a short illness. Lt. Col Chester E. South was born on September 17, 1924 in Aquila, TX. He was a graduate of SMU and a member of Oak Lawn Methodist Church. He was very proud to have served his country for 26 years in WWII and the Korean War. He served 17 years in Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and received a letter of accommodation from the Korean government for his unit’s excellent job. He retired as Staff EOD Officer for the Department of the Army. Lt. Col. Chester E. South is survived by his wife of 64 years, Minna Sue South, who he referred to as the love of his life. Chester is also survived by his 3 children, Earle T. South, Richard D. South and Susan M. South, who very much respected and loved their father; 2 daughter-in-laws, Cynthia South and Lisa South. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who greatly admired and loved him, Natalie South, Robert South, Jody Byrd and Annette Schiffleit; several great grandchildren. Chester’s great passions in life were his family, playing golf and the many dogs he has loved and cared for over the years. He will be missed and remembered by every life he has touched. Services will be held at 9:30 AM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Restland Abbey Chapel. Interment to follow at 1:30 PM at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, TX. Chester has requested in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
