Connie June Jensen's Obituary
“Connie” or “Gaga” was born on February 13th, 1917 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to George Nicholas Langer and Bertha Feddick Langer. She grew up on the shoreline of Lake Michigan with her older sister Delores and younger brother Warren, where she enjoyed swimming, ice-skating, and many other outdoor sports. While she was refined, she was rarely seen wearing dresses, as her Mother would have wished. She was somewhat of a Tomboy, and had been caught entering weekend races against boys and men at the organized cycling track. Although she was very smart, savvy, and determined, she only completed 11th Grade, given the financial needs during the Great Depression. Although she trained as a Secretary, her talents provided her with the ability to work across a number of career positions. She worked for the Simmons (Mattress) family as a Nanny, worked in retail, and waitressed on the weekends. She later met her husband (Oscar “Dick” Jensen) a brick mason at a weekend dance, whereupon they became inseparable. Soon after being married, they moved to Illinois and later Iowa, where they welcomed the birth of their daughter Judy. Eventually they moved to Texas in pursuit of long-term masonry jobs. Connie’s most important job was that as homemaker and mother. She loved to work in the garden, was an active church member and held leadership positions within Eastern Star (Masonic organization). She went back to work at a Bakery to help put Judy through college, and later chose to work at McShann’s Florist in Dallas for almost 10 years given her love of flowers. She had a deep love for her Daughter, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, relatives, and friends. She was deeply devoted to their wellbeing, and acted as a role model to instill determination, perseverance, and other important life lessons through her humor. The visitation for Connie Jensen will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Connie Jensen will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 10:00am at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
