Constance "Connie" Voss Power's Obituary
Constance (Connie) Voss Power was born December 16, 1926, to Louis and Nora Voss in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She died peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 97. Connie’s life was marked by her warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Connie met E.L. (Bill) Power on a blind date at a University of Michigan football game. They married in December 1951. They had two daughters. Bill’s job with General Motors moved the family to several locations throughout the country before they finally settled in Dallas, Texas. Connie worked as a secretary at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. She was an active volunteer for many civic and religious organizations including the Northwood Woman’s Club and the Edgemere Chapel committee. Connie learned to knit as a young girl and found great joy, entertainment, and community from the hobby, ultimately becoming an active member of the Edgemere Knit Wits. She also was an avid reader, adored playing games of any sort and especially enjoyed Bingo at the Plaza. Connie also never missed her weekly Bible study, wine and cheese gatherings, getting her hair done and her manicures!
Connie made the decision to move to Edgemere in 2001 as one of its first residents. She lived there happily for over 22 years. Connie moved into the Plaza in 2023.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held Thursday, August 8th at 3:30 pm in the Edgemere Performing Arts Center. Family Entombment will be held at Restland Memorial Park.
Preceding her in death are her parents, and sisters, Mary Mebus, Donna Rheinhart Blower, and Margaret Hake. Connie is survived by her two daughters, Julee McElfresh (Paul) of Cypress, Texas, and Mindy Ritchie (Lee), of Dallas, Texas. Her grandchildren, Matt McElfresh, Scott McElfresh (Sarah), Karen McElfresh, Heather Ritchie Wilson (Jeff), Robert Ritchie (Beth). She has 9 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Plus and her many caretakers, most notably Lillian Liggins who cared for her faithfully these past 7 months.
