Constance Hazard's Obituary
HAZARD, CONSTANCE COLVIN of Plano, Texas born September 10, 1920, in Ennis, Texas, to Oscar and Mary Stuart Colvin passed away December 25, 2006. Connie graduated from Ennis High School in 1938 and Texas State College for Women (TWU) in 1942, with a degree in Library Science. She married O.J. “Hap” Hazard in El Paso in 1945 while both worked for American Airlines. Connie was the Head Librarian of the National College of Chiropractic from 1963 to 1972, and was instrumental in gaining accreditation for their library. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and was active in each of the churches she called home. She believed strongly in giving back to the community, was an active member of Plano Republican Women, and volunteered for State Senator Florence Shapiro and Congressman Sam Johnson. She mentored three students over a period of five years at Memorial Elementary School in Plano quitting only when illness prevented her from continuing. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 51 years. She is survived by her stepsister Betty Jane Treadaway and husband Ted of Dallas, Texas, cousin C.B. Lewis and wife Lena of Mobile, AL, children Jim Hazard and wife Joanne of Montclair, New Jersey, Mary Setty Somerville and husband Dave of Murphy, Texas, Nancy Demers and husband Jan of Allen, Texas, grandchildren Jim Hazard III of San Francisco, Rachel Detwiler of Dekalb, Illinois, Lee Setty of Dallas, Marc Setty and daughter-in-law Landon of Mission Viejo, Calif., Anna Hazard of Montclair, New Jersey and great-grandchildren Jolie and Korbin. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Vitas Hospice Care for their compassionate care of their mother for the past few months. Connie was a devoted friend, mother and grandmother and she will be greatly missed but she will be remembered for her strength, courage, wisdom, grace, unwavering faith and unfailing spirit. Visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home from 5-7p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Services will be held 10a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at First United Methodist Church of Plano with burial following at Myrtle Cemetery Ennis, Texas.
