Corporal Albert (Buddy) Earle Mills' Obituary
Our Soldier, Corporal Albert (Buddy) Earle Mills, has come home after 68 years.Born July 17, 1930, in Dallas, TX, Buddy was the only son of J. Herman & Olga K. Mills, and he was a beloved brother to his sisters, Ora Evangeline Mills, Esther Naomi Milner, Ramona Ruth Mathis and Maryl Katherine Homan. His many surviving nieces & nephews have taken great comfort in knowing that “Uncle Buddy” was waiting in Heaven to greet his parents & siblings over the years at their own great Homecomings.Sadly, Buddy died on July 25, 1950. His body, alongside another soldier’s, was buried on a hillside by the local people. The Army recovered his unidentifiable remains in 1951 and he was ultimately buried as an “unknown soldier” in Hawaii’s National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. It was only due to another soldier’s family that his remains were tested and identified this past July. Our family will be eternally grateful to Charlie Angle and his family , and they will hold a special place in our hearts forever.Buddy joined the Army in 1948 – assigned to F Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division, he was stationed in Occupied Japan. July 18, 1950 the 1st Calvary Division started landing in South Korea. Following an intense battle near Yongdong, S. Korea, on July 25, 1950, only 26 soldiers from F company returned. Reported as MIA, and subsequently KIA, Buddy was posthumously promoted to Corporal and awarded the Purple Heart, among other medals.Buddy and his family were longtime members of the Dallas First Assembly of God church and he was a graduate of Crozier Tech High School in Dallas, TX.Over the years, we’ve heard stories about what a sweet young man he was, as well as being described as the “jokester” in the family. For 68 years our family carried the sorrow of not knowing what actually happened to Buddy and as a result, we never had a real sense of peace over his loss. We have that now.We hope you will join us in welcoming our Uncle, Korean War Veteran, Cpl. Albert E. Mills, home on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2018, at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the Memorial Service will start at 2:30 p.m.You are also invited to join us on Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, for the motorcade from Restland Funeral Home to the DFW National Cemetery. We ask that you arrive at Restland by 9:30 a.m. – the graveside service at the cemetery will begin at 11:00 a.m.In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at: woundedwarrierproject.org.Special thanks to Jon Sorbel and the Staff at Restland Funeral Home for graciously going above and beyond the call of duty for our family. We also want to thank William Cox and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency , as well as, our Army Representative, Sergeant First Class Anita Freeman, for taking such good care of our Soldier and his family..
