Cortize Hopkins' Obituary
Cortize Hopkins was born on December 9, 1935 to Naomi Palmer and Dennis Palmer. She married Alvin Hopkins Sr.in 1949 in Dallas, Texas and to this union five children were born. Cortize was a gifted cosmetologist. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Affectionately known as Ms. Sue and Gran-O she was a great cook that loved family gatherings and cooking for them. She was the pillar of her family. A mother to the motherless, her heart and home were always open to those in need. Very active in bible study, she was a voice of wisdom for all those who knew her and always willing to offer spiritual guidance. With her life she served the Lord often holding Sunday school in her own home. Her greatest joys were studying and teaching the Word of God and being a Mother. Well respected among all who knew her, she touched many lives. Her family was very proud of her and she felt blessed to see four generations of her own family. Gran-O was a light and inspiration to all who knew her. She will be missed greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents Naomi and Dennis Palmer, son in law; Kenneth Stribling, son; Alvin Hopkins Jr., and her granddaughter; Toby Stribling. She leaves to cherish her memories Alvin Hopkins Sr., two daughters; Yvonne (Don) Jackson, Drina Stribling, and two sons; Lash (Cindy) Hopkins, Audrey (Marilyn) Hopkins; one sister Dana Waters; two brothers; Sylvester (Pat) Palmer, Welton Palmer; eleven grandchildren; Chris Hopkins, Brandy Hopkins, Marcus (Rochelle) Hopkins, Shonda Hopkins, Paula (Ron) Phillips, Cory Hopkins, Carla Stribling, Zenith (Kenneth) Burns, Nina (Ty) Young, Tammy (Tyrie) Jameson, Lannie Hopkins; twenty three great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
