Courtenay Tyler Tanner's Obituary
Courtenay Tyler Tanner was born August 20, 1948 at Fort Lewis, WA. The daughter of Colonel Henry Samuel Tyler, Jr. and Dorothy Connor Tyler, she grew up in an Air Force family, living in various bases all over the world, creating Courtenay’s passion for travel and a love of adventure she carried for the rest of her life.
Since the late 1970’s, Courtenay focused on enriching the city she called “home” – Richardson – through numerous volunteer organizations such as the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, the Richardson Symphony Orchestra Guild, Richardson Arts Alliance, the Richardson Rotary Club, Richardson Altrusa, Richardson Woman’s Club, RISD Excellence in Education, Richardson Wildflower Arts and Entertainment Festival, Leadership Richardson, and the Junior League of Richardson. She was also a member of North Dallas PEO, and most recently a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Two of her proudest accomplishments were having a leadership role on the executive committee for the construction of the Charles W. Eisemann Center, and in 2014, being the recipient of Heart for the Arts Award – an honor she was extremely proud of.
Happiest spending time with her family and friends, Courtenay enjoyed laughing and relishing in all of the myriad of experiences of life – cherishing every moment she had. Loved by many throughout her beloved Richardson, and also the world over, her loyalty and compassion was unparalleled.
Courtenay is survived by her husband of forty-seven years – Richard, their two sons: Tyler (Ingrid) and Brev (Erin) – their three children: William, Nathan, and Catherine, and Courtenay’s three brothers: Hank, Joe (His husband, Donnie), and Tom.
