Coynella “Coy” Morgan, 92, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024, at her beloved home at The Landon at Lake Highlands in Dallas, Texas.
Coy was born in Bonham, Texas on June 5, 1932. She grew up in Dallas and attended Forest Avenue High School where she was a majorette and met the love of her life, Bennie Morgan. Coy and Bennie proudly served for many years as President of Forest Avenue Alumni Association. She was also the editor of the Alumni Newsletter. They were married for 66 years before he passed away in 2008.
Over the years, Coy worked at several charitable organizations. She enjoyed her time at the American Heart Association, the Cancer Society, and cherished her 30 years working at Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was a devoted volunteer every Labor Day weekend working at the Jerry Lewis Telethons. After years of service at MDA, she volunteered at the non-profit boutique in Northpark Center called Forgiveness Sakes.
She was a faithful member of Piedmont Baptist Church in her younger years and worked closely with Brother Bill Harrod who founded Brother Bill’s Helping Hands, an organization which provided shoes for children in Dallas. She loved volunteering year after year at her children’s schools and serving as a PTA president. Coy enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting and loved the time she spent with friends in local garden clubs. She loved shopping, especially at Lord & Taylor. Coy loved watching the Texas Rangers and was a huge fan of Elvis.
Coy’s family was the joy of her life! She loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities. She created lifelong friendships and continued to connect with her friends through the many cards she sent on birthdays and holidays. She had a generous heart and extended it to others.
Coynella Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Ray Morgan; a daughter, Vickie June Cook; a granddaughter, Lauren Amanda Cook; parents, Charles Maxie Hogg and Opal Lorene Hogg; her brother, Charles Maxie Hogg, Jr. and her sister, Charlsie June Taylor.
Coy leaves behind her loving family including her daughter, Debra Morgan Ross and husband Keith; granddaughter, Natalie Morgan Baker and husband Jason; grandson, Ryan Keith Ross; three great-grandchildren, Briggs Morgan Baker, Duke Davidson Baker and Court Ross Baker; along with many extended family and friends.
