Craig Allen Nixon's Obituary
Craig Allen Nixon was born on July 16, 1962 and passed away from heart/pneumonia complications on September 26, 2024. He was born in Bellingham, WA to Robert and Nancy. Craig was a loving husband to Patricia, a devoted father to Murphey and Garrett, and a cherished friend to many. Craig was a man of remarkable character and a pillar of strength for all who knew him. At work, he was known for his diligence, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
After graduating from Roseburg High School in 1980, he went on to study & graduate from Oregon State in 1984. During his junior year, he studied at Alabama as an exchange student where he found his passion for Alabama football. In the summers, during college, he sold educational books around the southern states for Southwestern Book Company. As a result, he settled in Dallas where he met Patricia.
Craig loved Alabama football, traveling, collecting Italian wine, photography, and most of all his family. He was an active member of St. Rita Catholic Community since joining through RCIA in 1989 and marrying Patricia in 1991. They had two children, Murphey and Garrett. His dedication to his family was unmatched, and his love for them knew no bounds. He was an active volunteer in all of his children’s activities including “all things dance and drill team”, Scouts and sports, DCYC and most recently supported Raider Catholic. He was a man of faith who loved to learn continuously about his Catholic faith. Craig began each day hearing “Good morning, Child of God!” as he listened to Gus Lloyd’s “Seize the Day” podcast on the Catholic Channel.
Craig is well loved and will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 33 years, his two children, Murphey Cohn (Brian) & Garrett, his father-in-law, John Murphey, his sisters, Julie Deland (Jim) & Linda Heiss (Steve) and brother-in-laws Kevin Murphey (Elaine) and Mark Garrett (Teresa). He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Stephen Denny, Alec Murphey, Tyler Garrett and Colten Garrett, Olivia Heiss and great-nephew Ryker Garrett.
While the family is devastated by Craig's loss, they want to celebrate his life, rather than mourn his passing. The family is requesting that those who want to celebrate his life do not need to wear black. He loved Alabama and always wore bright colors. Please wear red or any color that makes you happy.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, 10/06/2024 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm, including a 4:00 pm Rosary at
Restland Cemetery 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas.
A celebration Mass of Craig’s life will be held on Monday, 10/07/2024 at 11:00 am at St. Rita’s Catholic Church 12521 Inwood Rd, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in his honor be made to either Raider Catholic https://raidercatholic.org/one-time-gift or Catholic Charities of Dallas https://www.ccdallas.org/donate/, two ministries that Craig was passionate to support.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
