Cw Gray's Obituary
GRAY, CW Born March 7, 1925 to parents Clarence and America Gray in Lucas, Texas. At 3 months old his family moved to Dallas where in 1943 he graduated from Crozier Tech High. While at Crozier Tech he was selected Captain of the Varsity Football team with ALL CITY honors bestowed on him his Senior year. He was also selected Crozier Tech Student Body President, 1943. Upon graduation, CW married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Hinman. Constant companions for the next 64 years their love grew daily. CW entered the United States Air Corp in August 1943 and served his Country proudly in the Pacific Theater on the island of Okinawa. At war’s end he returned to Dallas and to his young love. CW began his career with Campbell and Taggert Associated Bakeries on Lemmon Avenue as a Junior then Senior Purchasing Agent and retired after 37 years of service. In 1963, CW filmed our young President Kennedy as the motorcade passed slowly down Lemmon Avenue from Love Field. C W was always involved in the lives of young boys, first as Cub Scout Master for Martha T. Reilly Elementary school and surrounding schools throughout Northeast Dallas from 1959 through 1961 as well as Head Coach for the Casa Linda Methodist Church baseball program from 1962 through 1969. In 1969 C W was awarded the Coaching Sportmanship of the Year Award as voted by his peers. In his 8 years of coaching his teams won 7 Championships. CW was a member of the Buckingham United Methodist Church of Garland, Texas where he served as Sunday morning greeter and usher. CW was preceded in death by his Mother, America and Father, Clarence; brothers, Vernon and Charlie and 2 daughters, Martha Jane and Susan. He is survived by his wife and lifelong love, Betty; devoted daughter, Linda and husband Tom Turns; proud son, Mark Gray; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family would like to thank Dr. Roberto Lopez for his care and commitment to CW’s well being. Lastly, the family would like to extend our deepest thanks to our dear Rosie Thomas whose constant care and unending love for C W made his life much easier in his last days. Thank you, Rosie, for demonstrating God’s love. Service will be 3:30 PM, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Restland Wildwood Chapel with Pastor David Howeth officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Saint Libra Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004-1001
