D Ray Langford's Obituary
LANGFORD, D RAY passed away after a brief illness on April 30, 2010. Ray was born in Bonita, Montague County, Texas on July 28, 1923. He was the son of James Thomas and Clemmie Longley. He was the third child in a family of four children – James the oldest, Newell, Bill and Mary Jennings. Ray graduated from Nocona High School. He attended North Texas State Teachers College (now University of North Texas) where he was president of his senior class. Upon graduation in 1944 with a Bachelor of Science, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy where he courageously served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged, Ray went to work for Sun Oil Company. After beginning his career in the oil business in Starr County, Texas, Ray moved to Dallas to work in the Purchasing Department. He spent his entire professional career with Sun Oil – retiring in 1986 after 40 years of service. It was at Sun Oil Company he met the love of his life, Ernestine. Ray and Ernestine were married on November 4, 1950. Ray was President of the Dallas Association of Purchasing Agents in 1961, Member of the Ben Newberry Club, Sun/Oryx Retiree Club, a member of the Dallas Petroleum Club and a member of American Legion Post 0453. He enjoyed playing golf and was a past member at Dallas Athletic Club and Royal Oaks Country Club. Ray Langford is survived by his wife of 59 years Ernestine, sons James Ernest of Dallas, Thomas R. and his wife Florence of Houston and grandchildren William James, Lillian Claire, Carolyn Raye of Dallas and Byron Thomas and Anne Giles of Houston. A Memorial Service will held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, May 4, at the Church of Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the charity of your choice.
