Dalen Frank Hodge's Obituary
Our Knight in shining armor now rests gently in the arms of Jesus. Dalen F. Hodge, 90, passed away peacefully at his home after an extended illness. He goes to join his beloved wife, Delores, who predeceased him. Dalen leaves behind to celebrate his life: his daughter Joan Hodge, his son Harry Wayne Hodge and his wife Cynthia, his granddaughters Caroline Hodge and Chelsea Chambers along with numerous friends.Dalen was born on March 3rd 1927, in Des Moines, Iowa to Harry and Fannie (nee Thompson) Hodge. Once Dalen graduated from high school, he was drafted by the Army and did a four-year stint in Japan. Not being a “worldly kind of guy” he spent his tour “with his nose in a book”. And, because he was never one to leave things undone, Dalen joined the Navy Reserves and was promptly sent back to Japan at the beginning of the Korean Conflict. Since he was a bit more “worldly” the second time around, he took full advantage of exploring the beautiful countryside. After being honorably discharged, and with the help of the GI Bill, he moved to Kansas City to study electronics. He came to Dallas to work for Collins Radio in 1955. Dallas was an eye-opening experience for a boy from Des Moines and he promptly set about making friends. One night he arrived to pick up a date. The woman that answered the door told him that his date was not there! Never one to waste an opportunity, Dalen did the next best thing and took the roommate out on a date. And the rest, they say, is history. Dalen and Delores were married on December 14, 1956 and they remained married for the next 56 years until Delores was called Home to be with Jesus.Dalen and Delores were able to raise a beautiful family and be active in their church and community; always together. Now they will be together again. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 11, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at Restland Funeral Home.Service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at 10:00 AM in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park, followed by a burial at 12:00 PM at DFW National Cemetery.
