Dan Rogers Johnson's Obituary
DAN ROGERS JOHNSON of Dallas, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 78.
Dan was born March 6, 1946, in Texarkana, Texas, to William Rogers Johnson and Mary Etta Wylie. He married Susan Gayle Hearn in 1972, and they had one son, Kevin, in 1975. Dan and Susan shared many wonderful years in Richardson and Dallas before Susan’s passing in 2006.
Several years later, Dan was introduced to Ann Principe by a mutual friend, and they married in 2014. Dan and Ann enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family. In 2022, they moved into a senior living community, and Ann remained by Dan’s side until his passing.
Dan graduated from Texarkana High School, attended Texarkana Junior College, and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1968. He went on to complete a Master of Business Administration at Texas Christian University in 1970 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1971.
He taught for several years at Eastfield and Richland Colleges before opening his own accounting firm in Richardson in 1977. After merging with another firm in the early 1980s, Dan embraced a new accounting software designed for the emerging microcomputer technology at the time. Seeing its benefits firsthand, he began selling the software to accounting firms across Texas. In 1987, he transitioned to work directly for Arthur Andersen & Co., where he specialized in selling APlus Tax software and providing training and support to firms nationwide. This led to a long and successful career in software sales and training across various industries. Before fully retiring, Dan provided information technology support to multiple tax offices across Texas and New Mexico.
Dan was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Richardson, where he attended Sunday School and was baptized on the same day as his son, Kevin.
In 2012, Dan got involved in bicycling, and after a year of dedicated training, he completed 100 miles in the Hotter’N Hell Hundred ride in 2013 at the age of 67. Dan continued riding for many years alongside his son, Kevin, and grandchildren, Kathryn and Kyle, enjoying time on local trails and with cycling groups.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his son, Kevin, and Kevin's wife, Kimberly; his grandchildren, Kathryn and Kyle; his stepchildren, Mark and Danielle; and his step-grandchildren, Hunter, Mercedes, Alina, Brielle, Malarie, Dalton and Caden.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 2 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Dan’s honor.
