Dan Grey Shelby III's Obituary
Shelby, Daniel G. Died December 24, 2010. He was born August 22, 1919 in Dallas. He attended Oak Cliff (Adamson) High School and Southern Methodist University. His entire working career was spent with Sun Oil Company. He joined Sun in 1940 as an employee of its Southwest Production Division in Dallas. He transferred in 1971 to Sun’s headquarters office in Philadelphia, PA. Upon retirement he returned to Dallas to close his career as a consultant to Sun’s Exploration and International subsidiaries. His tenure with Sun was interrupted by World War II while he served with the Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India theater. He was there assigned to the Bengal Wing of the India China Division. The mission of the Bengal Wing was to airlift aviation gasoline over the “Hump” from India to China. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Juanita Faye Shelby. He is survived by his children: Jennie and Rudy Adame, Julie and Don Walker, and Terry and Jim Wilcox; grandchildren: Nathan Adame, Natalie Adame Saad, Dylan Adame, Christopher Fain and Jessica Fain Olivarez; and 9 great grandchildren; nieces: Sandra Emswiler and Nancy Liscum. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Whispering Waters section of Restland Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Legacy of Preston Hollow for their loving care. If desired, a memorial to the charity of your choice is suggested.
