Daniel Alexander Brock's Obituary
BROCK, DANIEL ALEXANDER , a loving and giving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed peacefully into God’s Kingdom Sunday afternoon, May 16, 2010, in Richardson, Texas. Born August 31, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, Dan lived a long, full, productive life. He was the youngest of three children and graduated North Dallas High School. He joined the Army immediately after graduation and served in combat in the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines Campaign in World War II and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his military service, Dan earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southern Methodist University, raised and supported a family, and had a 30-year long career with the Dallas Water Utilities helping make Dallas’ water distribution system one of the most robust water systems in the world. One of Dan’s most significant professional contributions, in the early days of computing, was the development of the first computer program to model mathematically the water flows and water pressures in the ever-expanding Dallas water transmission and distribution system. Most who knew Dan knew that he leaned to the right politically . . . who are we kidding, EVERYONE who knew Dan knew of his political conservatism, and he read voraciously to have the facts to support his views. One of his favorite quotes was, “If you are not liberal when you are young, you may lack compassion, if you are not conservative when you are older, you lack wisdom.” Dan is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by a close family including his wife Cora; four sons, Jerry Brock and wife Joy, Jim Brock, Don Brock, and Dan Brock Jr.; step-son Jeremy Rosales; nine grandchildren Leah Brock, Christine Brock, Elaine Brock, Sarah Brock, Debbie Brock, David Brock and wife Tanza, Kim Quintana and husband Marc, Matthew Brock, and Michelle Brock; and three great-grandchildren Sebastian Quintana, Cambry Quintana, and Addison Quintana, the last of which was born only the day before Dan’s passing. Dan / Dad / Grandfather will be sorely missed by family, friends, and colleagues. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 S. Jupiter Road, Richardson, Texas. Interment will be conducted at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 23, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, TX.
