Daniel Mason Jones III's Obituary
Daniel M. Jones, III, 79, passed away Saturday, September 25th, 2021, surrounded by loving family.
Dan was born on March 31st, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia to the late D. Mason Jones, Jr. and Mildred McBrier Jones. He graduated from Douglas Freeman High School and Virginia Commonwealth University.
He met the beautiful love of his life, Roberta Ann Woods, in 1963 and they married in 1964. He was a devoted husband to Roberta, adoring and cherishing her through 57 years of marriage. Dan loved to have fun and to be outdoors. He enjoyed spending his free time fishing, golfing, playing games, traveling, and gardening. However, his favorite thing was just spending time with his Berta.
Dan was a proud father, always deeply involved in supporting his three children who loved him: Brian, Alan and Stephanie. He was a devoted grandfather to his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. “Pop” was admired and loved like a father by his children’s spouses.
Dan had a successful business career where he touched many lives. Most distinctive was the way he cared for people while being a strong leader within his organizations. An accountant by training, Dan began his career at a women’s clothing chain in Richmond, VA, working his way up to Chief Operating Officer before the company was sold. Dan subsequently became Chief Financial Officer of the acquiring department store in Rhode Island, followed by CFO positions at Dayton’s (Minneapolis), Sanger Harris (Dallas) and Macy’s (NYC). He then pursued his entrepreneurial gifts in North Carolina before returning to his CFO roots and ultimately building a business in Dallas called Tatum CFO Partners.
It is impossible to capture all the kindness and joy that Dan spread. Dan was a follower of Jesus and active in his church communities. He loved the Lord and held strong to his faith throughout his life. Dan’s legacy will be defined by his selfless love for others, his contagious joy and the extraordinary example he set for his family and friends of a purpose-filled life.
Dan is survived by his wife Roberta Jones of Fairview, TX; his children, Brian Jones and wife, Pam, Alan Jones and wife, Julie, and Stephanie Greenwood and husband, Kenny; his siblings, Barbara Hester-Wendle and Chuck Jones; his grandchildren, Austin Jones and wife, Logan, Brett Jones and wife, Josie, Chloe Jones, Danielle Jones, Emily Jones, Finn Jones, Trent Jones, Jason Jones, Cassidy Jones, Raleigh Greenwood, Reagan Greenwood, and Reese Greenwood; and his great-granddaughter, Corrine Jones.
The family will receive friends and have a viewing from 4:00pm – 5:30pm, Friday, October 1st, at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, Texas.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, October 2nd, in the Restland Memorial Chapel and will be live-streamed. (The funeral home requires masks to be worn inside the facility.) Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Restland Cemetary.
