Daniel Lee McPherson's Obituary
Daniel Lee McPherson, 79, of Dallas, Texas died February 26th, 2021. He was born July 23rd, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa.
He married Dina Poma on May 28th, 2006 in Dallas.
He has had multiple jobs throughout his life: a roughneck in the panhandle of Texas, a bar owner, and an entrepreneur to name a few. But he has spent the majority of his life working in finance. Dan’s Wall Street career started in 1983 when he joined the regional firm, Thomson McKinnon in Dallas, Texas. Dan’s strong work ethic and determination served him well and he advanced quickly. The fast pace of the investment industry fit Dan well but he wanted bigger and bolder opportunities. In 1984, he joined the national brokerage firm, E.F. Hutton in their downtown Dallas office. At Hutton, he once again excelled and soon became one of the offices’ top advisors. In 1985, a small group of advisors from across the country were selected to be part of a new program that Hutton was introducing. The program moved away from the traditional Wall Street model focusing on transactions and instead was built around service and performance. Dan’s desire to excel led him to achieve the title of “Hutton Portfolio Manager,” a title only a handful of advisors would obtain. For the next eight years Dan would grow his business and gain valuable experience in portfolio management. In 1993 that experience would allow him to start his own investment company, McPherson Asset Management. He built the firm based on a foundation of strong service, personal relationships and investment performance, a foundation that would serve him well for the next 28 years. In 2012 he once again decided to move forward by merging his firm with that of a former E.F.Hutton associate to form McPherson & Mayberry.
Dan had many passions throughout life. He loved to travel especially to exotic locations. He enjoyed riding motorcycles but only if it was a Harley. Over the years, Dan had many pets, almost always dogs but he loved horses as well. Even though he was born in Iowa, he called the Panhandle of Texas home, and when asked where he was from, he would proudly say "The Panhandle". As you might expect, after spending 30 years as a financial advisor, he loved to talk about the market. Later on, the occasional political discussion would also work itself in. Anyone who stopped by his office saw the many pictures of Western Hollywood stars like Roy Rogers and John Wayne, as he loved the classic Westerns. Dan enjoyed all kinds of music but liked Country and Western, which he usually had on in the background during the work day.
To say Dan was a proud Marine might be the biggest understatement there is. Dan was proud of his service and proud to support Veterans through many charitable causes. He had other charities that he supported as well, none bigger than the Boys Ranch in Amarillo.
He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a Private First Class.
He is survived by his wife, Dina McPherson; his daughters Danna, Angela, and Lora Gay; his sons Steve, Heath, Alex, and Michael; his grandchildren Richard, Samantha, Nicholas, Kevin, Savannah, Sierra, Jake, Kathryn, Kellen, Zoe, Alexia, Natalie, Gianna, and Nicolas; his great-grandchildren Payton, Bailey, Tien, Gabriel, and Dontae II.
He was preceded in death by his son Darren Dunn.
His funeral will be held at St. Bernard of Clairvoux at 12 PM on Friday March 19th, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Cal Farley Boys Ranch and Wounded Warrior Project.
