Daniel James Perrett, Jr.'s Obituary
Daniel James Edward Perrett Jr. was born on October 7, 1925 in Houston, Texas to Essie Marie and Daniel Perrett. He had 2 siblings – Bill and Dayle. As a child Dan Jr. was fiercely independent. When he was a toddler, still in diapers, he followed a lady onto a horse drawn street car. He rode on it quite awhile enjoying his newfound freedom. When the woman was about to get off, the conductor who happened to be Dan Jr.’s uncle said, “Lady, don’t forget your baby,” to which the woman replied, “He doesn’t belong to me.” The conductor took a closer look and finally realized, “That’s my brother Dan’s baby!” So he returned Dan to his parents after completing the entire route.Sadie and Dan met at Soule College in New Orleans. Sadie was brushing her hair at the bottom of a staircase. It just so happened, Dan was coming down the staircase and they caught each others eyes in the mirror. Dan thought to himself, “That’s the one for me.” Eventually they discovered they lived in the same neighborhood. One day Sadie was walking down the street when Dan saw her from his window. He pointed at Sadie and told his mother, “See that young lady walking down the street? I’m going to marry her.” To which his mother replied, “Does she know it?”Sadie and Dan married in 1947 and had 3 children – Linda, Danny and Ronnie. Dan’s profession took him to numerous cities and states. His family in tow they experienced a wide variety of American cultures including Louisiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, and finally Texas where he lived until he passed away on July 18, 2019.One of Dan’s biggest achievements and one he was profoundly proud of were his years in the service. He enlisted in 1943 at the age of 17 as a Cadet in the Army Air Corps and earned his wings just as the war ended. He wore his WWII cap proudly often being recognized and thanked for his service.Dan was a hospital administrator for Grapevine Hospital before becoming a consultant for Trammell Crow in the building of Medical City Dallas. He then worked as the administrator at Collom and Carney Clinic in Texarkana for many years. After retiring from hospital administration Dan worked at First International Bank in Plano where he was well loved by his fellow colleagues. He retired from the bank when he was 80. Dan had a great sense of humor, he liked people and people always liked him. His favorite holiday was Christmas. He loved sharing the Christmas spirit by preparing little bundles of candy for many of his neighbors at Evergreen. Most family holidays were celebrated at his daughter Linda’s house and usually involved a cajun shrimp boil. The Perrett family looked forward to these shrimp boils and while Dan Jr. was the expert Linda and Dan III were always ready to give advice. 20 pounds of shrimp served on a huge silver platter surrounded by red potatoes was always a family event. So was the card game that followed.Dan is survived by his wife of 73 years Sadie and son, Daniel J. Perrett III and wife Marilyn. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Ronald Sitman Perrett in 2013 and recently his daughter Linda Pennington on July 13, 2019.
