Danny Daryle Echols Sr's Obituary
He was born to parents, Monroe and Alta Echols, in Dallas, Texas on June 27,1921, the youngest of six children. He attended Ben Milam Grammar School in Dallas and graduated from North Dallas High School in 1938. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1942, and remained an avid Aggie supporter throughout his life. He served in the U.S. Army in field artillery from May, 1942 to May, 1946, and regretted that he never served overseas. He received his Juris Doctor law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1961. He worked for Atlantic Refining Company (which became Atlantic Richfield Company, then ARCO Oil & Gas Company, then British Petroleum) from May of 1946 until his retirement in August of 1985. During those years he worked as a plant chemist, operations engineer, gas sales engineer, gas sales manager, and ultimately vice-president of natural gas and natural gas marketing. He was a board member of the Southern Gas Association, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America, American Petroleum Institute, Natural Gas Society of Permian Basin, and Natural Gas Society of North Texas (President in 1985). He was a member of the Geosciences & Earth Resources Advisory Council at Texas A&M University, and the steering committee of the Natural Gas Supply Association. He was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, the Texas Bar Association, and the Engineers Club of Dallas. After retirement he moved from Dallas to Hide-a- Way Lakes near Tyler, Texas in 1986, and then moved to Waco, Texas in 2007, where he remained at Ridgecrest Retirement Center until his death on November 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three sisters and two brothers. Survived by one son, D. Daryle Echols, Jr., and his wife, Robbie Echols, who reside in Waco, Texas; two grandchildren, Eric Echols, and his wife, Rebecca Echols, who reside in Baltimore, Maryland, and Ashley Echols, who resides in New York City; and one great grandson, Anderson Echols, also a resident of Baltimore; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He loved his family and friends, loved grand opera, loved studying the Bible, loved to play golf, loved to hunt, loved to party, and loved to travel. Graveside service will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 2:00PM at Restland Memorial Park.
