Darrell McWilliams' Obituary
Hugh Darrell McWilliams passed away July 8, 2016 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Darrell was born to Shang Leo McWilliams and Gladys Marie Hooten June 16, 1946 in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry Wayne McWilliams and Shane Lynn McWilliams. Darrell married Sue Measles May 15, 1965, and through this union they raised two wonderful daughters, Sherry Lynne McWilliams and Dina LeAnn (McWilliams) Bell, and had three grandsons: Ryan Dillon Trent, Collin Michael Bell and Hayden Raleigh Bell. He is survived by these family members and many relatives. Darrell and Sue fell in love the first time they ever saw each other when he was placed in her classroom by mistake. Sue was 12 years old and he was 14 when their beautiful journey of love began, and they were married at ages 17 and 19 respectively. No words can ever describe the love they shared. Darrell “completed” Sue and always finished what she couldn’t at times when memory seemed to leave her. Darrell served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 4, 1966 to Oct. 4, 1968, and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington with boot camp at Fort Polk Louisiana. Darrell was a licensed electrician prior to entering the military and he returned to this field when his military service ended. He studied to achieve to the status of master electrician, worked for a major company for 20 years and owned his own business for a while. Darrell retired from work in 2009 but unfortunately did not have a chance to enjoy his retirement. He became ill with ALS-Lou Gehrig’s Disease almost immediately, and the suffering was unbelievable. No one should suffer that way. Darrell’s family is grateful for the military’s support and not sure how they would have handled the illness without it. He was a wonderful man who loved to fish, had a great sense of humor and enjoyed jokes and laughter. He will be dearly missed by a loving family. The memorial service for Darrell will be held Friday, July 15, 2016 at 12:00 pm in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
