Darryl Edward Beeson's Obituary
Beeson, Darryl Darryl Beeson was a raconteur, an adoring father, a lover of wine, a compendium of knowledge, master of puns and a prolific and hugely talented individual. Dallas’s celebrated “Wine Guy” and producer of the KRLD Restaurant Show served as cellar master at The Mansion on Turtle Creek and the French Room. He was also an international wine judge, syndicated columnist, prolific writer and reporter, radio host, college instructor, and the farthest-flung member of Cambridge University’s Wine Society. Safe to say, he was one of few sommeliers ever to spring forth from the suburbs of Garland, Texas. Always on a mission to dispel the myths and pomposity of wine, his “no secret handshakes” approach, wanton wit and encyclopedic knowledge of wine illuminated the pages of The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Detroit News, as well as Smart Money, InStyle, Food & Wine, Wine Spectator and D magazines. With his signature tweed jacket, vest, bow tie and Wellesian demeanor, you couldn’t miss Darryl. He went everywhere and knew everyone. He was larger than life. Darryl Beeson was born in Dallas, Texas on July 13, 1955 and passed away on Friday, January 28, 2010. He is survived by his beloved daughters Vanessa Beeson of Dallas and Alexandra Beeson of Illinois, mother Noralene Beeson of Garland, brothers Don Beeson of West Virginia and David Beeson of Waxahachie. He is preceded in death by his father Jewel Beeson and brother Doug Beeson, both of Garland. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 5th at Restland Memorial Chapel, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. By prior request, his ashes will be scattered over his beloved Napa and Sonoma Counties.
