David is predeceased by his father James Allan Anderson, mother Ada Ruth Baugh, son Brad, who passed away in December 2022, and his wife of 53 years Karolyn Reed Anderson, who passed away in 2007.
Kay’s husband James Read passed away in 1986 after 19 years of marriage.
David and Kay were married September 3, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Kay believes that after her 15 years as a widow, God brought David to her. She adored her life with David, and he adored Kay.
During the 1970s, the Andersons and the Reads were neighbors and dear friends for three years in Overland Park, Kansas before the Andersons returned to Dallas. Karol and Kay were especially good friends for many years.
Years later in 2012, David and Kay reconnected through social media. David’s daughter Karla remembers calling her daddy one evening before she knew he had reconnected with Kay. She thought he was in Dallas. He told her that he was having dinner and finally revealed he was in Cartersville with Kay. Karla was delighted with the news, then asked her daddy when he would be back home. David quickly said that he did not have a return ticket. It wasn’t long before Terri and Karla started calling Kay “Mama Kay.”
The couple lived a full, active life together. They traveled extensively in cruises around the world and engaged with their many friends, to whom they are dedicated. Many of their travels included David’s daughters, such as a trip to Ecuador.
His daughters cherish David’s love of golf. He provided lessons and often played with them. They joyfully remember a father/daughter tournament in which David, Karolyn and the children played. After the chaotic round, David laughingly described their abilities as on par with “The Three Stooges.”
Daughters Terri and Karla remember their father as the best and kindest, ready to help and always there for them. Each year David took the children to the Thanksgiving Day parade and the State Fair of Texas, even as adults. He was thoughtful toward each child individually. Karla remembers that her daddy made visits to a record store near where he worked and brought her a new 45 RPM record home each week. A favorite time the children shared with David was pecan waffles at the country club after Church each Sunday.
David’s love of golf extended to visits to St. Andrews Links in Scotland, the Masters (where he got a cap each year signed by the Champion) and he was involved with the Byron Nelson Classic Tournament for more than 40 years. David has trophies for two holes-in-one. He competed at other tournaments, as well.
David served on the Dallas Athletic Country Club Board of Directors for many years. In that role, he worked with Jack Nicklaus on course design.
In addition to golf, David enjoyed fly fishing, bird and deer hunting.
A mechanical engineer, David graduated from the University of North Texas. His career was in the commercial construction industry. He retired from Curtainwall Design Consulting. The many construction projects with which he was involved included: Dubai International Airport in the UAE; Emirates Tower in the UAE; Ayala Triangle in Manila, Philippines; and Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles, California.
David and Kay are members of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cartersville, Georgia.
A Memorial Service will be held for David on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 2:00PM at Restland Funeral Home's Wildwood Chapel.
