David Bruce Berglund's Obituary
David Bruce Berglund, age 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home in Dallas, Texas, and went to be with His Lord on June 3, 2021.
Bruce was born on November 23, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois, to David and Hildur (Johnson) Berglund. He grew up in Rockford with his two sisters, Janice and Elizabeth. He graduated from East Rockford High School in 1949. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1953, and later received his Masters of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
After serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Bruce moved to the Dallas area. In 1966, he married Dorothy Banta from Marshall, Texas, and they later had four children, Judith, David, Janice, and John. Bruce worked as an electrical engineer for several companies, most notably E-Systems/Raytheon in Garland where he was employed for over 35 years until his retirement. He held several patents within the industry.
Bruce was a loving husband, father, and provider, and dedicated his time to his wife and children and to his relatives. He was a train enthusiast and also enjoyed photography, audio/videography, classical music, and working with all things electrical, optical, and mechanical.
One of the ways Bruce demonstrated his faith as a follower of Christ was to give regularly to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Trans World Radio, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, and other Christ-centered organizations. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; his four children, Judith (& Ryan) Riley, David Berglund, Janice (& Brian) St. Denis, and John (& Mary Beth) Berglund; his six grandchildren, Victoria, Leslie, Gus, Louisa, Rosalina, and Greta; his sister, Janice Norberg; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Hildur, and by his sister, Elizabeth Berglund. Bruce will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.
Bruce will be buried at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A private memorial service is being planned for later this summer.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving a gift in memory of Bruce to either the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (billygraham.org), Trans World Radio (www.twr.org), or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch (www.calfarley.org).
