David "Moty" Morton Bland's Obituary
David Morton Bland, or "Moty" as many knew him, passed away peacefully at age 991/2 on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He was born in Burgaw, NC to J.T. and Nancy Goode Bland, and was raised in Boydton, VA, graduating from high school in 1940. He graduated cum laude from Virginia Tech (class of 44) in 1947, after having spent 3 years in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd lieutenant and flight engineer on B-29's. He married the love of his life, Aloise Boswell, on February 16, 1945. He joined Vought Aircraft (LTV) in 1947 and had a great 40-year career in engineering design. He lost his wife Aloise in 2011 and is survived by son Bruce (wife Patricia) of Southport, NC and daughter Martha Henry (honorary son-in-law) Mark Thompson) of Plano, Tx and grandchildren Catherine Bland and David Bland (wife Jenna), and his great grandson Harrison Boswell Bland. As the family patriarch, he was loved and respected by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed traveling, golf, bridge, working the neighborhood patrol, pets and friendships. He loved gardening and provided veggies to many friends and neighbors. He loved the Cowboys. Moty had the most wonderful, contagious laugh. He gave of his time, the produce of his prolific garden, and his wisdom. After the death of his wife Aloise in 2011, he enjoyed an "independent life" at Signature Pointe, where he made many new friends and enjoyed an active social life. He was loved there and leaves behind many friends and caring staff. We are grateful for the many years we've had with him and for the many treasured memories. We love you, Daddy. Rest in heavenly peace.
