With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of David Gene Dowling, Sr., affectionately known as Gene, who passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2025, in Plano, Texas, at the age of 88.
Born on March 4th, 1936, in Durant, Oklahoma, Gene's journey was one of devotion to family, hard work, and joyous gatherings. In 1956, he proudly served his country as a Machinist's Mate Third Class in San Diego, California, aboard the USS Laws, embodying dedication and strength.
After his honorable service, Gene embraced a fulfilling career at Taylor Publishing Company. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when he founded Frisco Building Services in 1997, showcasing his hardworking and responsible nature.
Gene's life was enriched by his passions—he loved classic country music, cherished spending time with his wife and children, and never missed an opportunity for a good meal. Family activities like boating on the lake, joyous family gatherings, and attending Sunday morning services at church were the moments he treasured most. Baptized later in life, Gene was a devout Christian and loved his Lord Jesus and kept Him dear to his heart as he utilized Jesus’ teachings throughout his life.
Known for his kindness, loyalty, and generosity, Gene touched the lives of everyone around him. His warm-hearted spirit and unwavering commitment to family created a foundation of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Gene is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Rosemary Dowling; his sons, David Gene Dowling, Jr., Steven McWilliams, and Greg McWilliams; his daughter, Cindee O'Neal; and his adored grandchildren, Amber Allen, Allison Leathers, Justin McWilliams, Ryan McWilliams, Amara McWilliams, and Kealani McWilliams. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arrie and Bernice Dowling.
Gene's legacy is one of love, laughter, and togetherness. As we reflect on his life, we find comfort and joy in the countless happy memories he created. His generous spirit and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on all our hearts.
A celebration of Gene's life will be held on February 4th, 2025, at Restland Funeral Home's Memorial Chapel, located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243. Family and friends are invited to share in this tribute to a life beautifully lived.
